FAQ

Here’s more of the nitty-gritty about the weekend.

This is not a conventional wedding, no matter how you look at it. It’s one of the reasons why we’re so excited about it. But we know it may not always be clear what to do ... or what to wear ... or how to get there. Don’t worry! We’re here to answer any questions you may have.

Dress

Hindu Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is a traditional South Indian Hindu event. This means that most women will be wearing sarees (see an example) and men will be wearing either dothis (see an example) or kurta pajamas (see an example). Feel free to wear these as well! If you have questions on where or how to buy a saree or kurta pajama, let us know! We’re happy to help!

You are also more than welcome to wear a suit (for men) or dress, slacks or a long skirt (for women).

Healdsburg Reception

On Saturday, we’re celebrating! Wear what you would to a classy party. We want you to feel comfortable and good about yourself, so wear what makes you shine! Read our weather blurb below for some helpful hints about how to dress for the Bay Area.

Weather

The weather in the Bay Area can vary depending on where you are, especially in San Francisco. Mark Twain wasn’t lying when he famously stated that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!

The weather in October will actually be quite lovely in both the East Bay and Sonoma. It will most likely be sunny and 70s Fahrenheit during the day, and clear and high-50s/low-60s at night.

If there is one word that you should remember when it comes to packing your clothes for the Bay Area, it’s layers!

Always be prepared to toss on a layer or two. Hoodies, cardigans & scarves are wonderful things to bring with you. With regards to rain, October is a fairly dry time of year, and so there isn’t much rain expected. But it doesn’t hurt to bring an umbrella.

Travel

There are three convenient airports in the Bay Area:

San Francisco Airport (SFO)

A major, international airport, about 1 hour from the wedding ceremony site, and about 2 hours drive from the reception site.

Oakland Airport (OAK)

A smaller, but still international airport, about 40 minutes from the wedding ceremony site, and about 2 hours from the reception site.

Sonoma Airport (STS)

A small, regional airport, about 2 hours from the wedding ceremony and about 15 minutes from the reception site

SFO is your best bet if you’re traveling from a far, with the most flights going in and out on a daily basis. Feel free to hunt around for deals at the other area airports.

Driving

You'll likely need to rent a car. Let us know if we can help connect you with fellow rental car friends!

GETTING TO THE CEREMONY

The temple for the wedding ceremony is about a 15-minute drive from the recommended hotel.

GETTING TO THE RECEPTION

SHED is about a 15-minute drive from the recommended hotel. We will be providing shuttle busses to and from the hotel on Saturday night.

Traffic

Traffic in the Bay Area can be a bit prickly. We find that Google Maps is your best resource for traffic and directions info, and that Apple Maps isn’t as useful.

If you’d like some guidance on traffic, feel free to contact us and we will happily give you the best local advice!
